The American Gastroenterological Association Research Foundation is pleased to announce that Richard S. Kwon, MD, MS, from the University of Michigan, is the recipient of the inaugural AGA-Covidien Research & Development Pilot Award in Technology. This award is supported by a generous grant from Covidien, a leading global provider of health-care products.
The National Institutes of Health recently awarded $46.5 million to the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and its Colorado Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, a research partnership designed to speed up development of new treatments to address the greatest health needs of Coloradans.
When predicting future global population growth, sometimes scientists look to the past. Using a database with historical records that began in 871 A.D., an anthropologist at the University of Missouri was able to show reproductive patterns and shed new light on the "quantity-quality" trade-off, a biological concept used to describe a parent's unconscious decisions to balance between the time and financial investment needed to produce offspring.
Prostate cancer is the number two killer of American men, second only to lung cancer. It is a disease that affects more than 2 million American men, and in 2010 there were over 218,000 new diagnoses.
