Aeterna Zentaris Inc. today announced that the European Patent Office has granted a patent for the use of alkyl phosphocholines, more specifically perifosine, in the preparation of a medicament for the treatment of benign and malignant tumours, prior to and/or during the treatment with approved anti-tumour anti-metabolites such as 5FU and capecitabine.
In the second Series paper, Suicide in young men, a group of researchers led by Dr Alexandra Pitman of UCL (University College London) Mental Health Sciences Unit, UK, examine another under-investigated area of suicide research. After reviewing research published over the last decade, they found strikingly few studies distinguishing the factors which identify those young men (aged 19 – 30) at greatest risk of suicide.
Researchers have found a causal link between caesarean section birth, low intestinal microbiota and peanut sensitivity in infants, and they report the effect is more pronounced in children of Asian descent than others, in a recently published paper in the journal of the American Gastroenterological Association.

This report, based on feedback gathered in an on-line survey completed by 72 retinal specialists in June/July 2010, addresses the medical management of noninfectious uveitis (anterior, intermediate, posterior and panuveitis) and referral/co-management patterns between retinal specialists and other specialties.
