Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital and the New York City-based Natural Gourmet Institute, have created a two-day food seminar to help the community understand how to break old habits, create new ones and maintain a healthy lifestyle by using the right tools.
Resistance of leukemia cells to contemporary chemotherapy is one of the most formidable obstacles to treating acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common form of childhood cancer. Now researchers at Children's Hospital Los Angeles have designed and developed a new protein-based therapy they believe will prove highly effective against drug-resistant leukemia cells.
Enabling clinicians to seamlessly transition between cardiac and peripheral intervention during a single procedure, Infinix DP-i cardiovascular X-ray system from Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. will be used in eight live cases at Peripheral Angioplasty and All That Jazz conference, Oct. 31 - Nov. 2, 2011, New Orleans.
The University of Virginia Health System is piloting a new program that uses its EpicCare electronic medical record to speed patients' access to specialists.
Many patients with type 2 diabetes in the United States may be discouraged from taking metformin—a proven, oral diabetes medicine—because the U.S. Food and Drug Administration inappropriately labels the drug unsafe for some patients also suffering from kidney problems, researchers from Penn Medicine and Weill Cornel Medical College report this week in a research letter published in JAMA Internal Medicine.
