Twelve years after a breakthrough discovery in his University of California, Berkeley, laboratory, professor of chemical engineering Jay Keasling is seeing his dream come true.
Myriad Genetics, Inc. today announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire proprietary technology for the diagnosis and prognosis of malignant melanoma using highly validated genetic markers from Melanoma Diagnostics, Inc. of Altadena, California. Under the agreement, Myriad has the right to commercialize all tests derived from the technology on a worldwide basis in exchange for upfront fees and contingent payments based upon the commercial success of the products.
Researchers in Britain say children who are bilingual before the age of 5 are far more likely to stutter and also find it harder to lose their impediment.
Results from the Global Adult Tobacco Survey suggest that almost 50% of men worldwide consume tobacco in one form or another.
Recent international studies of math and science education suggest that students in the United States are falling further behind their foreign counterparts. Next week, this issue and others will take center stage at the 2010 joint meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers and the American Physical Society, which takes place from Feb. 13-17 at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, D.C.
