Johnson & Johnson today announced the completion of the acquisition of Synthes, Inc. for a total purchase price of $19.7 billion in cash and stock. Synthes will now be integrated with the DePuy franchise to establish the DePuy Synthes Companies of Johnson & Johnson.
Leading HIV experts today called on the global HIV community to intensify collaboration on tuberculosis control, to prevent the deaths of a quarter of a million people living with HIV (PLHIV) a year.
"The nation's largest public hospital system plans to slash its work force—including doctors and nurses—by about 10% over two years as government aid drops and the number of uninsured patients jumps," The Wall Street Journal reports.
Commenting on second quarter 2010 performance, Chairman, President and CEO Jai Nagarkatti said: "Our earnings for the second quarter of 2010 continued the strong performance achieved in this year's first quarter. We are very pleased with this performance that drove our increase in diluted EPS for the first half of 2010 to 18%. Consistent with our first quarter 2010 experience, conditions were favorable in several of our markets.
