UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers have found that halting production of new neurons in the brain following traumatic brain injury can help reduce resulting epileptic seizures, cognitive decline, and impaired memory.
Patients who received the antidepressant escitalopram following a stroke appeared to recover more of their thinking, learning and memory skills than those taking placebo or participating in problem-solving therapy, according to a report in the February issue of Archives of General Psychiatry, one of the JAMA/Archives journals.
Joyce O'Shaughnessy, M.D., medical director and co-chair of the Breast Cancer Research Committee, US Oncology Research, and medical oncologist with Texas Oncology-Baylor Sammons Cancer Center, presented her study findings today at the 33rd Annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS), an international scientific symposium for interaction and exchange among basic scientists and clinicians in breast cancer
