A compound with potential as a treatment for ALS has gained further promise in a new study that showed it improved the condition of mice whose motor neurons had been damaged by an environmental toxin known to cause features of ALS.
In recent years, hospitals have reported dramatic increases in the number of cases of the highly contagious, difficult-to-treat, and often deadly antibiotic-resistant bacteria carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE). Now, investigators at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have developed a promising method of identifying new antimicrobials that target these organisms. The research is published in April issue of the journal ASSAY and Drug Development Technologies.
RTI Biologics Inc., the Florida-based processor of orthopedic, dental, surgical specialties and other biologic implants, is launching two new biologic implants for use in sports medicine surgeries at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting in New Orleans this week.
