ASHP, together with five other healthcare organizations, today sent a letter to Reps. Morgan Griffith and Diana DeGette - the Vice Chairman and Ranking Member, respectively, of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations - asking Congress to take immediate action to address the public health crisis caused by persistent shortages of critical medications.
Researchers at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia successfully developed and validated a new outcome measure to monitor disease severity and progression in patients with impaired skeletal muscle function caused by mitochondrial disease.
A new study suggests that most people with acute conjunctivitis, or pink eye, are getting the wrong treatment. About 60 percent of patients are prescribed antibiotic eyedrops, even though antibiotics are rarely necessary to treat this common eye infection.
Several reports indicate that prolonged viewing of mobile devices and other stereo 3D devices leads to visual discomfort, fatigue and even headaches. According to a new Journal of Vision study, the root cause may be the demand on our eyes to focus on the screen and simultaneously adjust to the distance of the content.
Medication non-adherence is as dangerous and costly as many diseases, causing up to 125,000 deaths annually in the U.S. Non-adherence, the failure to take drugs on time in the dosages prescribed, has been described as the world's "other drug problem."
