Gels, creams and sprays containing painkillers such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, ketoprofen, and piroxicam are safe and effective treatments for local pain, according to Cochrane Researchers. A new systematic review they have conducted shows that topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are more effective than placebos for treating short-term pain and have few side effects.
Genzyme Corporation announced today that the FDA notified the company yesterday afternoon that, while the agency recognizes Genzyme's efforts, it intends to take enforcement action to ensure that products manufactured at the plant are made in compliance with good manufacturing practice regulations. The FDA enforcement action will likely result in a consent decree, under which a third party would inspect and review the plant's operation for an extended period and certify compliance with FDA regulations.
Cleveland Clinic has been awarded a $2.6 million grant from the National Institute on Aging to develop and validate two automated tools - a risk calculator to identify patients at high risk of cognitive decline and a screening tool to test for cognitive decline.
A European study investigating the links between diet and disease has found that people who consume more fruit and vegetables have a lower risk of dying from ischaemic heart disease - the most common form of heart disease and one of the leading causes of death in Europe.
