Remdesivir is an antiviral first developed by Gilead in 2014 as a treatment for Ebola and Marburg viruses. However, scientists explored its possibilities as a broad-spectrum drug when it proved effective against SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV, coronaviruses which were responsible for earlier outbreaks.
The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Board of Directors has decided that the CMA will apply for intervener status before the Supreme Court of Canada in its pending appeal of a case involving Insite, the supervised injection facility in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Progress toward understanding the role of sex hormones in the growth of prostate cancer—the most common cancer in U.S. men—has been hindered by the lack of a suitable laboratory research model. Now researchers say they have developed the first model of hormone-induced human prostate cancer initiation and progression.
