In a new study Australian researchers have found that having an older brother delays the age at which girls get their periods. The study conducted by Human behavioral ecologist Dr Debra Judge and PhD student Fritha Milne, of the University of Western Australia in Perth was published in this week's Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
Their finding that the brain's reward system is switched on by this "sixth sense" machinery could have implications for understanding the causes of obesity. For example, the findings suggest why high-fructose corn syrup, widely used as a sweetener in foods, might contribute to obesity.
Precision medicine is part of Singapore's Research, Innovation and Enterprise (RIE) 2025 strategic goal to transform and protect the health of every Singaporean.
In a recent review in Environmental Science and Pollution Research, Italian researchers focused on "the evidence that correlates the degree and type of pollution with the increased susceptibility of many countries to this pandemic and proposes human semen as an early marker of the environmental health and the general health of individuals." Their observations are based on a robust body of experimental evidence.
Relying on an independent study by the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki decided to establish a service-connection for Vietnam Veterans with three specific illnesses based on the latest evidence of an association with the herbicides referred to as Agent Orange.
