Electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) can prevent critical illness polyneuromyopathy (CIPNM), according to Greek researchers. CIPNM is an acquired limb and respiratory muscle weakness that is a common and serious problem among intensive care unit patients, and can result in prolonged ICU and hospital stay. EMS can also shorten the duration of weaning from mechanical ventilation and the length of ICU stay.
Over and over again, President Obama has promised not to raise "any form" of taxes on families making less than $250,000 per year. Yet, the U.S. Senate is getting ready to consider a government healthcare bill which does just that.
"One drink a day might be too much for a woman who has a genetic pre-disposition to cirrhosis of the liver," said Howard Monsour, M.D., chief of hepatology at Houston Methodist Hospital "One drink for a woman has about twice the effect as it does for the same amount consumed by a man."
