New treatment strategies over the last few decades have meant that nowadays 95% of transplanted kidneys function well for at least one year and that the average lifespan of a transplanted organ is between 10 and 15 years.
According to a new study nearly 20% of American patients who receive an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) may not need it. These ICDs when unnecessary could put the patients at higher risk of death and serious complications than patients who meet the criteria for the life-saving device say authors of the study published in the Jan. 5 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
HSE social and political analysts have established which value models and circumstances promote support for restrictive government policies aimed at combatting the coronavirus pandemic. The research is published in Plos One.
Primary care physicians agree they have a role in addressing obesity, but say they do not have the right weight management resources. Obese or heavier adults take responsibility for weight loss, but adults who need to lose weight may lack information about effective weight loss methods and strategies. These findings and others come from new research commissioned and released today by the Strategies to Overcome and Prevent (STOP) Obesity Alliance, a project operating out of the Department of Health Policy at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services.
A study led by La Trobe University has shown that eating fish such as sardines, salmon and trout twice a week can reduce asthma symptoms in children.
