The West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and WVU Medicine, today (Nov. 5) announced the launch of a first-in-the-U.S. clinical trial using deep brain stimulation for patients suffering from treatment-resistant opioid use disorder.
Much of the research defining osteoporosis and fracture risk has focused on older adults, i.e. postmenopausal women and men over the age of 50. While older adults are at highest risk of osteoporosis and related fractures, the disease can also affect younger adults between 20 and 50 years of age. However, the diagnosis and management of osteoporosis in young adults is complicated by special challenges, including a complex pathophysiology and the related fact that there is no clear definition of osteoporosis, or of intervention thresholds, in this age group.
A ring with the ability to diagnose sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis, gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomoniasis was designed by the Mexican Ernesto Rodríguez Leal.
Virginia Commonwealth University physicists, working with one of the most precious materials on Earth – gold - and with one of the most common – sand - have created a so-called "nano-bullet" that targets tumors and may help scientists develop non-invasive cancer treatments.
Atlantis Healthcare, a global leader in treatment adherence programs, was named an Innovator in Pharma Marketing by PM360 in their special 2013 Innovators issue.
