Selecting treatments according to genetic differences could help children and teenagers with asthma, according to research presented at the European Respiratory Society International Congress.
Commonly prescribed beta 2 adrenergic agonist drugs for the treatment of asthma in pregnant women as well as pre-term labor may increase the incidence of autism-spectrum disorders, psychiatric pathology, cognitive problems and poor school performance in their children, according to a new study published in the December 2009 issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Recently published advancements in pulmonary research suggest that the combination of non-invasive ventilation and home oxygen therapy can significantly prolong time to readmission or death for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease following a life-threatening respiratory event or exacerbation.
Delirium, or the medical term for experiencing sudden confusion, is upsetting for both older adults and their families. In fact, it is one of the most common complications older adults face after surgery (a time often referred to as the "post-operative" period).
A group of researchers with experience in treating high altitude pulmonary edema have written to correct the misconception in medical social media forums and elsewhere that the lung injury seen in COVID-19 is not like typical acute respiratory distress syndrome and is instead like HAPE.
