The Emmes Corporation today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given marketing clearance for a new device that allows doctors to more accurately assess children's weight without the use of a weight scale. Weight estimates are used in emergency situations and in developing countries where scales may not be available.
According to a study done by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and published by the Cancer Research Journal, early detection for Pancreatic Cancer is particularly important because it is known as the "silent killer", by the time symptoms appear it is usually too late and is known to have a very low survival rate of 7% over 5 years.
Survivors of an intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH; a type of hemorrhagic stroke in which bleeding occurs directly into the brain) who had inadequate blood pressure (BP) control during follow-up had a higher risk of ICH recurrence, with this association appearing stronger with worsening severity of hypertension, according to a study in the September 1 issue of JAMA.
Cancer chronotherapy consists in administering treatment at an optimal time. Because the body is governed by precise biological rhythms, the efficacy of anti-cancer drugs can be doubled and their toxicity reduced five-fold depending on the exact timing of their administration.
