Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced today that it had received US FDA 510(k) clearance of its Proton Therapy System. It is the first 510(k) cleared medical device for Sumitomo. Proton therapy is a form of radiation therapy, which employs proton beams to kill cancer cells with better dose distribution in comparison with conventional x-rays. Currently 12 facilities are operational and several more are under construction in the United States, and the U.S. proton therapy market is expected to expand in the future.
Today, the Government of Canada finalized new regulations related to the implementation of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) for workplace hazardous chemicals.
In recognition of her spirit of innovation and the lasting impact of her work on cancer patients, MUSC Hollings Cancer Center researcher Nancy Klauber-DeMore, M.D., has been named as a 2020 fellow of the National Academy of Innovators, the organization announced Dec. 8.
For years, many parents of children with autism have advocated a diet avoiding the proteins gluten and casein, but there had not been a scientific review of evidence about this practice.
