"The Transcendental Meditation Program, a widely-used standardized program to reduce stress, showed significant decreases in blood pressure and improved mental health in young adults at risk for hypertension," said David Haaga, PhD, co-author of the study and professor of psychology at American University in Washington, D.C.
Suneva Medical, a privately-held aesthetic medical device company, provided a research grant to support an investigator-sponsored research study to evaluate the degree of correction and patient satisfaction after injection of atrophic scars with Artefill. The data was presented by Dr. James Spencer, the grant recipient and study investigator, in a poster session at the 2010 Orlando Dermatology Conference taking place in Orlando, Florida January 15-18th.
"For mental health to gain significant attention, and funding from policymakers globally, it is not enough to convince people that it has a high disease burden but also that there are deliverable and cost-effective interventions - according to South African researchers writing in this week's PLoS Medicine," a PLoS press release reports.
People generally worry about who their neighbors are, especially neighbors of our children. If high-fat food and soda are nearby, people will imbibe, and consequently gain weight. Or will they? With students' health at risk, a study in the July/August 2011 issue of the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior explores the influence food store locations near schools has on the student risk of being overweight and student fast-food and sweetened beverage consumption.
