COPAN announced this week that it has received the Japanese patent for the invention of flocked swabs, FLOQSwabs, for collection and transfer of biological samples. The Japanese flocked swabs patent (2007-523663) is the latest addition to a growing number of patents held by COPAN across the world for the use of flocked swabs for collection and transfer of biological samples, including the Australian patent (2004226798) granted earlier this year, a European patent that covers several countries (1608268), a Canadian patent (2515205), and New Zealand patent (541560).
A team of researchers at the IRCM, led by Dr. Jean Franois Ct, made an important discovery in breast cancer, which will published online this week by the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).
Anti-aging supplements made up of mixtures might be better than single compounds at preventing decline in physical function, according to researchers at the University of Florida's Institute on Aging. In addition, it appears that such so-called neutraceuticals should be taken before very old age for benefits such as improvement in physical function.
A new study suggests that the relationship between brain shrinkage and memory loss in Alzheimer's disease changes across the age spectrum.
