Every day, the human body manufactures and destroys about 100 billion neutrophils- the most common type of white blood cell and one of the most highly-produced cells. Previous analyses did not account for effects of age and illness that may make abstainer groups appear to have higher death rates than drinkers.
Older adults who consumed small amounts of flavonoid-rich foods, such as berries, apples and tea, were two to four times more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease and related dementias over 20 years compared with people whose intake was higher, according to a new study led by scientists at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (USDA HNRCA) at Tufts University.
Trinity Orthopedics LLC, a medical device company that develops and markets products for minimally invasive spine surgery, announced today that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a monoplanar pedicle screw method, system and kit. Trinity currently markets the posterior fixation system in the United States under the ReStor name.
The March of Dimes has committed another $2.6 million to support the work of six scientists for the next three years as they study the causes of preterm birth. The 2010 grants bring the six-year total of the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Initiative grant program to more than $15 million.
