Research conducted by the University of Valencia (UV) and the Jaume I University of Castellón (UJI), among other institutions, has found alterations to the structure of the brain's nonapeptidergic systems, social behavior and the production of pheromones, traits that reveal sexual dimorphism, in male mice with a lack of the Mecp2 gene.
Researchers have shown that people with head or neck cancer are not necessarily at any greater risk for developing coronary artery disease than the general population.
A new study by researchers at the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet shows that the immune defence's T cells can attack the "bad" LDL cholesterol and thereby cause an inflammation that leads to atherosclerosis. By producing a vaccine against the T cell receptors, the researchers have managed to inhibit the development of atherosclerosis in animals.
New research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill indicates that treatment with anabolic steroids may improve surgical repair of massive or recurrent tears of the shoulder's rotator cuff tendons.
Responding to the release of the British Social Attitudes survey by the King's Fund and Nuffield Trust which shows falling levels of patient satisfaction with the NHS, Dr Chaand Nagpaul, BMA Chair of Council, said: Patients are being treated in hospitals that have had years of neglect and by a health service that we know is grossly underfunded.
