SRI International, an independent nonprofit research and development organization, announced today that it has assumed responsibility for further clinical development of the TAS-108 breast cancer program, in cooperation with Taiho Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese pharmaceutical company. Further clinical development will focus on the lead compound's registration for the treatment of tamoxifen and aromatase inhibitor-resistant breast cancers.
Dramatic reductions in hospitalization for heart attacks and in the need for revascularization surgery were achieved in angina patients treated with the selective heart rate reduction medication ivabradine on top of current standard treatment, according to results of a major clinical study presented today at the 2009 Canadian Cardiovascular Congress in Edmonton.
The CFIDS Association of America commends the AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banking) for its actions to protect the safety of the nation's blood supply by recommending that blood collectors actively discourage potential donors who have been diagnosed by a physician with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS, also known as chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome, or CFIDS) from donating blood through the use of donor information materials made available at the donation site.
