ProMedica, a mission-based, not-for-profit healthcare system focused on improving health and well-being, today announced the finalization of the transaction that adds HCR ManorCare operations to the ProMedica organization.
Bioheart, Inc., announced today that the company has commenced work on its REGEN trial, a Phase I Clinical Trial to test genetically modified MyoCell® in patients suffering from Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Bioheart's MyoCell® is a regenerative cell therapy that uses myoblasts, or muscle stem cells,that are grown from a patient's own muscle. MyoCell® has been tested successfully on patients in four clinical trials.
Gilead Sciences, Inc. provided an update today on the development of the fixed-dose combination of Truvada (emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) and Tibotec Pharmaceuticals' investigational non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor TMC278 (rilpivirine hydrochloride, 25 mg).
The importance of left ventricular diastolic function improvement in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction has been questioned, after researchers found that treatment with spironolactone resulted in some functional improvements but failed to impact on patients' exercise capacity.
Scientists led by Dr. Daniel De Carvalho at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre have discovered a gene signature biomarker that may predict which patients will respond - or not - to immune therapy.
