Findings from three large, randomized Phase III studies demonstrate the superiority of Tasigna (nilotinib) compared to Glivec (imatinib) at achieving deeper molecular responses across various Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) patient populations, including newly diagnosed patients, patients with residual disease who switched to Tasigna after long-term treatment with Glivec, and patients who failed to respond to frontline Glivec (as defined by 2013 European LeukemiaNet [ELN] guidelines).
It was long debated whether cholesterol-lowering statins can be conducive to the occurrence of neuropathies. A study presented at the Congress of the European Academy of Neurology in Amsterdam now issues an all-clear signal: Patients treated with statins were not at greater risk of developing polyneuropathy than others.
An analysis of six tests that are used to measure platelet function and help gauge the effectiveness of antiplatelet drugs for patients undergoing a cardiac procedure such as a coronary stent implantation found that only three of the tests were associated with a modest ability to predict outcomes such as heart attack or death, according to a study in the February 24 issue of JAMA.
