Some low-income consumers who bought bronze plans with low premiums but high deductibles are discovering they still can't afford health care and are turning to the community health centers which can not turn anyone away.
Pregnant women with low vitamin D levels experience an increased amount of pain during labor, according to a study presented at the ANESTHESIOLOGY 2014 annual meeting. Vitamin D deficiency has long been associated with depression and pain, but this is the first study to demonstrate its association with increased consumption of pain medication during childbirth.
African-Americans and women are less likely than Caucasians and men to undergo bone marrow transplantation to treat cancers of the blood.
HIV/AIDS patients need their doctors to pay more attention to their other health conditions that can be exacerbated by HIV or its treatments, especially now that people are living longer with HIV. That is according to a international study of 2,000 patients that two Chicago-area health providers were instrumental in carrying out.
Thoratec Corporation, a world leader in device-based mechanical circulatory support therapies to save, support and restore failing hearts, said today that a 30 percent growth in revenues from its Cardiovascular Division in fiscal 2009 led to a 19 percent increase in total 2009 revenues versus those in fiscal 2008.
