e-Therapeutics plc announces that regulatory agencies in the UK and the US have approved plans for phase I trials of the Company's anti-cancer drug ETS2101 and that enrolment of patients into trials in these two countries will begin shortly.
Wayne State University recently received a five-year, $1.925 million grant from the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health to test the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) - a newly recognized level of gene expression regulation - in bacterial keratitis – an infection of the cornea caused by bacteria - as well as to identify new therapeutic targets and alternative treatment strategies.
Senators are planning to grill Marilyn Tavenner, the Obama administration's nominee to head the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, but Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., has said she is "eminently qualified," and her confirmation is expected.
As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the government is investing billions of dollars to encourage health care providers to use electronic health record systems. Many providers will probably switch from older systems to new systems to qualify for the federal incentives, but whether the upgrade improves patient care and safety has remained an open question.
