In this Lancet opinion piece, Laurie Garrett, a senior fellow for global health at the Council on Foreign Relations, examines a number of social, political, and financial issues at play ahead of the November 6 U.S. presidential election and their implications for domestic and global health programs.
International guidelines recommend direct oral anticoagulants over warfarin to prevent stroke for most patients with atrial fibrillation.
The president wants to phase out a Medicaid provider tax that Malloy has used to help balance his budget. The White House also wants to "blend" Medicaid rates with the rates received from the federal government for a health program for children. That could mean fewer federal health dollars for Connecticut.
Study findings published online in The Lancet on June 27, 2017 have found that an experimental patch of dissolving microneedles can produce robust immune responses for influenza. The microneedle patches can be administered safely and can be a substitute for the needle-and-syringe vaccination. With further advancements, they could remove the uneasiness in using an injection and inconvenience of visiting a flu clinic, as well as offering cost benefits.
