Originally hosted in Europe on even calendar years, the COPD Conference series for researchers and healthcare professionals is coming to the U.S. for the first time. The COPD Foundation is hosting the COPD7USA Conference, named after the seventh COPD Conference held last summer in the U.K. COPD7USA will be held on December 3rd and 4th at the Crystal City Gateway Marriott, 1700 Jefferson Davis Highway, Crystal City, VA 22202.
A study in the July 1 issue of the journal SLEEP shows that sleep extension is beneficial to athletic performance, reaction time, vigor, fatigue and mood in collegiate basketball players. The study is the first to document sleep extension and the athletic performance of actively competing athletes.
Nearly 1 in 10 children have asthma, according to government statistics, and in low-income parts of Boston, nearly 16 percent of children are affected. A program called the Community Asthma Initiative (CAI), developed and implemented in 2005 by clinicians at Children's Hospital Boston, demonstrates the potential to dramatically reduce hospitalization and emergency department visits for asthma - improving patient outcomes and saving $1.46 per dollar spent through reduced hospital utilization.
