An international research team including scientists from the University of Toronto's Faculty of Medicine has discovered a link between a mutation in an immune system gene and Alzheimer's disease.
Scientists from the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore at the National University of Singapore, and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR)'s Genome Institute of Singapore have discovered four potential drug compounds that target hepatocellular carcinoma, the most common type of liver cancer.
The lens in the developing eye acts as a TGF-beta signaling center that controls differentiation, survival and formation of multiple eye structures deriving from the neural crest.
Researchers have discovered that the loss of a gene called p63 accelerates aging in mice. Similar versions of the gene are present in many organisms, including humans. Therefore, the p63 gene is likely to play a fundamental biological role in aging-related processes.
