The NCD Alliance has welcomed More Active People for a Healthier World, the new WHO Global Action Plan for Physical Activity 2018-2030, launched today in Lisbon, saying it has the potential to prevent huge numbers of deaths and disability from noncommunicable diseases across the globe.
An $18 million commitment from the Simms/Mann Family Foundation, led by Dr. Victoria Mann Simms and Ronald Simms, will support UCLA's expansion of integrative psychosocial care for people with cancer and their families into communities throughout Southern California.
Phenomix Corporation today announced positive top-line results from a six-month Phase 3 study comparing dutogliptin 400mg and 200mg once daily as monotherapy versus placebo for the treatment of patients with Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Dutogliptin is Phenomix' internally-discovered dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor.
Research led by Johns Hopkins physicians and scientists shows that a test for measuring the length of DNA endcaps, called telomeres, which has a variability rate of 5 percent, can alter treatment decisions for patients with certain types of bone marrow failure.
By broadly comparing the DNA of children to that of elderly people, gene researchers have identified gene variants that influence lifespan, either by raising disease risk or by providing protection from disease.
