Australia's Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has announced fears of groundwater contamination beneath up to 2000 homes. The EPA said that industrial activity at the former Hills Industries site in Edwardstown, south of Adelaide, caused dangerous materials - including a chemical known to cause cancer - to seep into the groundwater.
The current issue of the British Medical Journal online includes a scientific study conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) that shows that household water treatment with PUR Purifier of Water developed by Procter & Gamble significantly lowers diarrhea in children.
Alkermes, Inc. today announced positive topline data from two clinical trials of ALKS 33, an investigational oral opioid modulator for the treatment of addiction and other central nervous system disorders. Data from the studies, ALK33-003 and ALK33-004, showed that ALKS 33 was generally well tolerated and successfully blocked the effects of an opioid, with a duration of action that supports once daily dosing.
Recent legislation is encouraging clinical trials in children, including the Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act and the Pediatric Research Equity Act.
