Children who attend day care or play groups have about a 30% lower risk of developing the most common type of childhood leukaemia than those who do not, according to a new analysis of studies investigating the link.
"Persistent cough in underweight patients with diabetes warrants screening for active tuberculosis." This is the message in the editorial of the December 2019 issue of the International Journal of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, based on findings from a Singapore-based study that have reported that patients with diabetes and who were also underweight had an eight-fold increase in their risk of contracting active TB, compared to obese individuals without diabetes.
For at least one state, implementing health reform is starting to appear easier said than done. The Daily Record, a Baltimore legal newspaper, reports, "Maryland's new Health Care Reform Coordinating Council held its first meeting last week, resolving to find the best way to implement provisions of the landmark federal health care overhaul.
A research team led by Professor Wang Wen-ching of the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology, National Tsing Hua University has exploited the power of big data to identify two key biomarkers contributing to the proliferation and metastasis of gastric (stomach) cancer.
