For the first time, scientists have identified a simple way that can effectively transport medication into the brain - which could lead to improved treatments for neurological and neurodegenerative diseases.
In a new study researchers have found a connection between exacerbation of bronchial asthma and high calorie burgers and fries. Diet and lifestyle have been linked to asthma for some time now but this is the first real evidence. With the advent of unhealthy diets the incidence and prevalence of asthma is on the rise. In 2007, about 34.1 million Americans had asthma, according to the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. From 1980 through 1994, the prevalence of asthma increased by 75 percent.
The British Mycological Society, in association with Elsevier, the world-leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information, today announced the final programme for the 9th Mycological Congress IMC9: The Biology of Fungi. This congress takes place every 4 years at a different venue around the world.
Called the "Little Women," six women who have spent the past three years listening, documenting and researching parental concerns about Gardasil have been invited to formally present their information to the FDA on March 12. FDA participants include the Office of Communication, Outreach and Development/Center of Biologics (CBER), Office of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, and Office of Vaccines Research and Review.
Chilean Health Minister Maria Soledad Barria earlier this month announced that the government will distribute Barr Laboratories' emergency contraceptive Plan B - which can prevent pregnancy if taken up to 72 hours after sexual intercourse - in public clinics to girls ages 14 and older at no cost and without parental consent, the Christian Science Monitor reports.
