The National League of Cities Institute for Youth, Education, and Families today launched the Municipal Leadership for Healthy Southern Cities project in partnership with the Foundation for the Mid South (FMS). The project will help communities confront a situation in which more than 23 million children and adolescents are currently overweight or obese, and the associated health problems are expected to cost the nation $14 billion per year.
Dressing in "traditional" medical attire may help physicians in the intensive care unit to get relationships with their patients' families off to a good start, research suggests.
Sedentary lifestyles are the root cause of many obesity-related diseases and neuromuscular conditions. Research shows an inactive lifestyle has a debilitating effect on our cardiovascular and muscle health as we age, therefore exercise is imperative. This is why chiropractic physicians often advise walking more to help relieve low back pain and boost overall wellness.
Even 30 minutes of exercise per week has the potential to significantly reduce a woman's risk of developing cervical cancer, according to a study from scientists at Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI). The case-control study was recently published in the Journal of Lower Genital Tract Disease.
"Despite the apparent burst of White House attention to Africa from the First Lady's tourism-heavy visit to South Africa and Botswana last week, there are still plenty of reasons that many (including me) remain disappointed by the administration's efforts so far," Todd Moss, vice president for corporate affairs and senior fellow at the Center for Global Development, writes on the "Rethinking U.S. Foreign Assistance Blog."
