A Penn Medicine patient with a genetic form of childhood blindness gained vision, which lasted more than a year, after receiving a single injection of an experimental RNA therapy into the eye.
Caliber Biotherapeutics, a fully-integrated biopharmaceutical company, announced the opening of the world's largest plant-made pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Bryan, Texas, with the capability of producing 10-100 million doses of infectious vaccines per month, and hundreds of thousands of doses of protein biotherapeutics such as monoclonal antibodies.
The Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), the second largest funding source of cancer research in the United States, kicks off its second year by awarding 52 cancer research grants totaling $40,302,026 to 13 Texas institutions. Among the grants are two CPRIT Scholars in Cancer Research recruitment awards bringing outstanding scientists from preeminent institutions to join the faculty at Texas universities.
Fear arises in the almond-shaped brain structure known as the amygdala. It is the amygdala which processes the strange noise, shadowy figure or scary face and not only triggers palpitations or nausea but can also cause us to flee or freeze. That much has long been known about the function of this part of the brain.
