Christopher Haarstad, 36, was surprised at how well he felt a couple of hours after having laparoscopic surgery for a hernia in March.
Research on rats with crushed spinal cords, similar to human injury, reveals that treatment soon after injury combining radiation therapy to destroy harmful cells and microsurgery to drain excess fluids significantly increases the body's ability to repair the injured cord leading to permanent recovery from injury, according to the study published in the July 18 peer-reviewed journal PLoS ONE.
Many areas of research and medicine rely critically upon knowing a person's individual immune system proteins, as they determine an individual's ability to fight disease or mistakenly attack their own tissues.
As USAID "is going to have to do more with less as it faces serious budget cuts," NPR's Morning Edition spoke with USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah "about what the troop drawdown in Afghanistan will mean for U.S. assistance for Afghanistan."
Study results presented today at The International Liver Congress 2015 show that the occurrence of advanced liver fibrosis is similar for patients infected with the hepatitis C virus (HCV), whether or not they have been diagnosed.
