A breast cancer vaccine already shown to elicit a powerful immune response in women with varying levels of HER2 expression has the ability to improve recurrence rates and is well tolerated in an adjuvant setting, according to new research from a clinical trial led by researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
New, long-term results from a clinical trial presented at the 1st European Lung Cancer Conference jointly organized by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the International Association of the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) show that MAGE-A3 ASCI (Antigen-Specific Cancer Immunotherapeutic), an immune-boosting treatment for lung cancer patients, reduces the risk of relapse after surgery - to the same extent as chemotherapy but without the side-effects of chemotherapy.
A new study from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is looking at nurse- and pharmacist-led interventions to improve the standard of care for patients who have suffered minor stroke or transient ischemic attack, also known as "mini stoke."
Today, Medicaid Health Plans of America released a policy statement and white paper highlighting the common ground between Medicaid health plans and the patient-centered medical home model. According to MHPA, the capabilities of Medicaid plans are closely aligned with the principles of PCMHs and therefore plans should be included in states' PCMH implementation strategies. MHPA's Policy Statement notes that collaboration between states, medical home providers and health plans is essential for coordinating complex inpatient and outpatient needs of Medicaid beneficiaries.
Astex Therapeutics, the UK-based biotechnology company developing targeted therapies for oncology and virology, and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium announced today the initiation of a Phase II clinical trial of the cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor, AT7519, to treat patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer. The trial is designed to investigate both single agent and combination activity of AT7519 with bortezomib (VelcadeĀ®).
