Stem cells from adult schizophrenia patients form new proteins more slowly than those from healthy people, according to new research.
Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a leading RNAi therapeutics company, announced today that it has initiated a Phase IIb trial in adult lung transplant patients with ALN-RSV01, an RNAi therapeutic for the treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. RSV infection in lung transplant patients represents an important unmet medical need; the condition is associated with significant morbidity, including the development of acute lung transplant rejection in 10% to 20% of infected patients.
There are only two FDA/EMEA approved drugs currently available for treating advanced melanoma. The available drugs, however, are not completely effective and have adverse effects. Unmet needs of patients, especially those with advanced melanoma are therefore quite high and have led to a low drug adoption and market growth over the years. The future looks brighter though, with a few promising drugs in pipeline for advanced melanoma.
Cancers of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract continue to exert their toll across Europe, with many diagnosed too late for effective treatment. Bowel cancer screening programmes are now underway in most European countries, but screening for other GI cancers is patchy and not necessarily well-targeted.
