This study used data from a nationwide survey to estimate how many patients with cancer and cancer survivors use complementary and alternative medicines in addition to or instead of conventional therapies, and how many don't disclose that to their physicians.
A researcher at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, in collaboration with scientists from the National Institutes of Health, has discovered that the deadly plaques of Alzheimer's disease interact with certain cellular proteins to inhibit normal signals that maintain blood flow to the brain.
Back problems are a highly prevalent health issue, and people with the condition have a significantly greater chance of retiring early from the workforce, much more so than for any other health condition. A group of Australian researchers reports that not only does early retirement limit the immediate income available to these individuals, but it also reduces their long-term financial capacity, by reducing their ability to accumulate wealth to a significant degree.
A meta-analysis of clinical trial and real-world data suggests that drotrecogin alfa may in fact reduce mortality in patients with severe sepsis.
