A crucial component of the Republican Party's assault on the Affordable Care Act always has been ignorance - that is, the promotion of ignorance about the ACA's benefits among the general population. Now, from the consulting firm McKinsey & Co., comes hard evidence that the campaign worked, bigtime. In its latest national survey to determine how the healthcare reform act has been working, McKinsey found that the perceived cost of health insurance still was the No. 1 reason given by respondents for not enrolling (Michael Hiltzik, 5/14).
A recent study reported in The Journal of Nuclear Medicine compared use of the novel Ga-68-PSMA-ligand PET/CT with other imaging methods and found that it had substantially higher detection rates of prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) in patients with biochemical recurrence after radical prostatectomy.
Mylan Inc. has announced that its subsidiary Alphapharm Pty Limited won a favorable decision in patent litigation against it and Barr Laboratories Inc. relating to Galantamine Tablets, USP, the generic version of Ortho-McNeil's Razadyne Tablets, 4 mg, 8 mg and 12 mg.
A new study from the University of Alberta demonstrated that the blood clotting protein called fibrinogen also regulates MMP-2, an enzyme involved in immunity and in clot formation inside blood vessels. Prolonged MMP-2 inhibition could potentially produce a deficiency state with severe consequences.
