The combination of two common medical tests can improve a doctor's ability to predict which patients will develop serious kidney disease, a research team led by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) reports in a recent issue of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
Although not all Republican governors are pushing to change Medicaid into a block-grant program, there seems to be general agreement for seeking greater flexibility in how states spend Medicaid dollars. Reports also persist that some Democratic lawmakers appear open to plans to chip away at Medicaid's requirements.
An electronic "nose" is capable of detecting with 86% accuracy when a lung transplant is beginning to fail, according to research presented at the 'virtual' European Respiratory Society International Congress today.
The findings come from professional services firm Towers Watson, which concluded that 9 percent of mid-sized to big employers will move away from offering workers health insurance after insurance exchanges become operational in 2014.
