A study just published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Internal Medicine examines diabetes screening for patients with severe mental illness, who are two to three times more likely to have type 2 diabetes than the general population. More than seven million Americans in the United States have severe mental illness, and there are many factors contributing to their increased risk of getting diabetes, including treatment with antipsychotic medication.
RXi Pharmaceuticals Corporation, a recognized leader in RNAi-based therapeutic discovery and development, today announced the selection of its first RNAi therapeutic product candidate to advance into development.
Ongoing state budget cuts continue to negatively impact health care services in California. The latest round of budget cuts has eliminated additional health-services programs, including a prominent program for incarcerated women who suffer from drug and alcohol abuse.
When patients were unaware they were taking statins there was no reported increase in muscle-related symptoms. But, when patients knew they were taking a statin, they were more likely to report symptoms, a finding consistent with the nocebo effect.
