An analysis published August 25 in the open-access journal PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases sheds new light on the toll that neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) take on sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), with an estimated 500 million people suffering from these debilitating and sometimes deadly diseases.
Misonix, Inc., a developer of minimally invasive ultrasonic medical device technology, which is used in Europe for the ablation of tumors and worldwide for acute health conditions, today announced the sale to USHIFU, LLC of all of the rights to the High Intensity Focused Ultrasound technology previously obtained from Focus Surgery, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of USHIFU, together with other HIFU related assets.
Touching these safety net programs would raise the ire of some Democrats, but the concept is being advanced by President Barack Obama as a trade-off for new tax revenues.
Getting vaccinated against the flu lowers kidney transplant recipients' risk of organ loss and death, according to a study appearing in an upcoming issue of the Clinical Journal of the American Society Nephrology.
Immunicum, which is developing cancer vaccines, has received approval from the Swedish Medical Products Agency to start its first clinical trial. The study will be conducted on kidney cancer patients at the University Hospital in Uppsala. At the same time, the company secures substantial financing to complete the clinical trial.
