Nebreda has reported that the protein RingoA is a key regulator of meiosis-the cell division process that gives rise to ovules and sperm for sexual reproduction in mammals.
In the most comprehensive genetic study of the Mexican population to date, researchers from UC San Francisco and Stanford University, along with Mexico's National Institute of Genomic Medicine (INMEGEN), have identified tremendous genetic diversity, reflecting thousands of years of separation among local populations and shedding light on a range of confounding aspects of Latino health.
Curis, Inc., a drug development company seeking to develop next generation targeted small molecule drug candidates for cancer treatment, today announced that a medicinal chemistry paper related to the discovery of CUDC-101, Curis's HDAC, EGFR and Her2 inhibitor, was published online in the Journal of Medicinal Chemistry and also will be published in an upcoming print version of the journal.
As part of its "Blueprint" series discussing the creation of a U.S. global AIDS blueprint called for by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in July, the Center for Global Health Policy's "Science Speaks" blog features an opinion piece by Salmaan Keshavjee of Harvard Medical School and Partners In Health. With an estimated 1,000 people with HIV dying of tuberculosis (TB) every day, "it is clear that our current approaches to addressing the global tuberculosis pandemic are inadequate," he writes.
A team of scientists from the Cancer Science Institute of Singapore at the National University of Singapore and National University Cancer Institute Singapore, and their collaborators from the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre, UCLA School of Medicine, demonstrated that a number of novel genetic defects are able to induce oesophageal cancer.
