Almost entirely along party-lines, the House voted to repeal a provision of the health law that establishes a trust fund to support prevention and public health activities. Opponents of the trust fund said it was a "slush fund" for the HHS secretary, but the White House responded by threatening a veto.
Clinicians at Glasgow's Royal Hospital for Sick Children are now able to scan patients' hearts in just one heartbeat thanks to the installation of GE Healthcare's Revolution* CT. The technology's ability to freeze the heart's motion helps to produce high quality diagnostic images, even for patients with erratic or high heart rates which may have led to poor quality images in the past. This helps reduce the need for invasive examination procedures and allows for quick and confident diagnoses of heart disease.
To better understand why people without cognitive symptoms are at risk of falling, first author Audrey Kelemen, a graduate student in Stark's lab, and colleagues followed 83 people over age 65 for a year.
A novel mechanism used by adenovirus to sidestep the cell's suicide program, could go a long way to explain how tumor suppressor genes are silenced in tumor cells and pave the way for a new type of targeted cancer therapy, report researchers at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in the Aug. 26, 2010 issue of Nature.
