A new study provides a long-sought explanation for the beneficial fat-fighting effects of black pepper. The research, published in ACS' Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, pinpoints piperine - the pungent-tasting substance that gives black pepper its characteristic taste, concluding that piperine also can block the formation of new fat cells.
A new World Health Organization report highlights the urgent need to reduce emissions of black carbon, ozone and methane - as well as carbon dioxide – which all contribute to climate change.
Vanderbilt's Kenneth Gaines, MD, MBA, professor of Clinical Neurology, has received a $15.7 funding award to determine if stroke outcomes can be improved with a redesigned and better-integrated model of care.
