Researchers have unlocked new clues in understanding why group A streptococci (GAS) has a range of bacterial afflictions in humans. One of the keys to this species of bacteria is its production of streptokinase (SK), an enzyme that activates plasminogen, the blood clot-dissolving protein in humans.
Final results of SWOG Cancer Research Network's groundbreaking international Prevention of Early Menopause Study clinical trial are in, and they show continued evidence that women who get injections of the hormone drug goserelin along with standard breast cancer chemotherapy are more likely to become pregnant - without developing negative side effects or shortening their lives.
The results from a very well-done meta-analysis support other data generated on the risk of alcohol consumption and gastric cancer - that is - that the risk may be real for heavy alcohol consumption but not for moderate intake.
