Scientists tested a marker of the sugar levels in blood samples*(2) taken from almost 10,000 men and women aged between 45-79 and then checked their medical condition six years later.
The Medicines Patent Pool and the World Health Organization, Afrigen Biologics Limited, the Biologicals and Vaccines Institute of Southern Africa, the South African Medical Research Council and Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention have signed a letter of intent to address the global imbalance of manufacturing capacity for COVID-19 vaccines.
Treating diabetes during pregnancy can break the link between gestational diabetes and childhood obesity, according to a Kaiser Permanente study featured in the September issue of Diabetes Care.
'The study demonstrated for the first time that a protein called PP5 was significantly upregulated in the lungs of severe asthmatic patients compared to healthy controls. We are extremely excited by this paradigm shift observation.' - Dr Yassine Amrani, University of Leicester.
