The American Urological Association (AUA) today announced that submissions are now being accepted for the 6th Annual Excellence in Urology Health Reporting Awards, designed to recognize outstanding news coverage of urologic disease topics. Presentation of the awards will take place during the AUA Annual Scientific Meeting in Atlanta, GA, in May.
Five years into the Missouri Quality Initiative for Nursing Homes, a program aimed at improving nursing home care, researchers at the Sinclair School of Nursing at the University of Missouri are seeing significant reductions in spending and potentially avoidable hospitalizations in participating nursing homes.
Not so long ago, laws governing abortion in Massachusetts and Rhode Island were far more restrictive than those in the Deep South, as state legislators throughout New England regularly banned the procedure, no matter the circumstances, during the 1960s and '70s.
House Democrats, under pressure from fiscal conservatives to cut spending, have dropped from a jobs bill both a COBRA subsidy extension to help newly laid-off pay for health coverage as well as more federal aid to boost state Medicaid budgets, The Associated Press reports. Although several programs covered by the bill will expire during the congressional recess that begins this weekend, final action isn't expected because even if House members reach agreement on the measure, it must still go to the Senate, which has not scheduled any votes today.
