Researchers at the University of Louisville have detailed a critical connection associated with a major environmental cause of silicosis and a form of lung cancer. Their study is reported in today's Nature Communications.
University of New South Wales (UNSW) researchers have uncovered an important naturally occurring mechanism in the body where "bad" cells that cause blockages in our blood vessels are kept under strict growth control, while "good" cells that keep our blood vessels free of clots and growths are left unaffected.
The revised rule on insurance coverage of birth control that HHS will formulate, finalize and implement by August 2013 will apply to self-insured entities, as well as policies issued by insurance companies, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told reporters. The details of the revised birth-control rule-;announced after a furor from Catholic employers who object to funding something to which they are morally opposed-;remain undefined, except that it will require insurance companies to pay for the drugs instead of religious employers.
A study of more than 6,200 impairment ratings spanning 5 years revealed an error rate of 78 percent, resulting in ratings averaging more than twice what was appropriate. Ratings from eight states were examined, with 81 percent of the cases being from California and 91% rated using the Fifth Edition of the American Medical Association Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment.
